Rock Music (known as "Rock and Roll" in the 50s) the greatest genre is music EVER! Ever since the genre of music was made, it has progressed into sub-genres and is very pleasing to the ears, if you like LOUD music. The sub-genres include emo rock, alternative rock, punk rock, metal, and that is just to name a few. The origin of rock came from the 40s and 50s with the music called Rock and Roll and was inspired deeply by Rhythm and Blues (R&B) and Country music. The typical instruments a rock band has is the electric guitar, bass, electric keyboard (sometimes), and of course, vocals. Through the years, rock music has evolved greatly. In the 1960s, sometimes referred to as 'the golden age' or 'classic rock period, new rock genres have emerged. These genres are blues rock, country rock, jazz-rock fusion, and other genres. These genres have contributed to make a new genre called progressive rock. From that genre came glam-rock, heavy metal, and punk rock. heavy metal and punk rock came around around the 70s and 80s. Punk music was a major influence in the 80s. The bands in this genre are Nirvana, Green Day, The Offspring, and other bands. In my opinion, those bands make very excellent music. Heavy metal developed around the late 80s, early 90s. The first bands I listened to in this genre are Metallica, AC/DC, Motorhead, and other bands. Again, in my opinion, this is the greatest genre of music ever! To learn more about these bands I mentioned and more, Google them or go to their websites.
John Cooper
John Cooper was born in Memphis, Tennessee on April 7, 1975. He is the lead singer, bassist, and co-founder of a Christian rock band called Skillet. Before he went on and made Skillet, he was briefly with a band called Seraph. After he left, in 1996 he created the band Skillet with Ken Steorts. They had met while touring with other bands, John being with his band Seraph and Ken being the lead guitarist for a band called Urgent Cry. Soon after they disbanded from the groups, they decided to meet up and try playing together. They tried out different styles of music and decided to call their little experiment Skillet. Soon after, Trey McClurkin joined in as a temporary drummer. It was only a few months after when they got noticed and got signed up with Christian label called ForeFront Records. Both Ken and Trey left, leaving John as the main songwriter and founder of Skillet.
James Hetfield
James Hetfield was born in August 3, 1963 in Downey, California. He is the co-founder, lead vocalist, and rhythm guitarist for the great band Metallica. He founded the band in October of 1981 after answering an ad for the current drummer, Lars Ulrich. Hetfield has two half-brothers and one younger sister. His mother was a light opera singer and his father is a truck driver. While Hetfield was in high school, his mother had passed away from cancer. It was a terrible time for Hetfield. Her passing away has been inspiration for famous Metallica songs, such as "Mama Said" and "The God That Failed". Since forming the band Metallica, they have won nine Grammy awards and have sold millions of each of their albums.
Patrick Stump
Patrick Stump was born in Illinois on April 27, 1982. He has been with Fall Out Boy since they first formed in the early 2000s. In the band, he is the lead vocalist and guitarist. The band has a lot of hit singles like Dance, Dance and Thanks For the Memories. The band was formed by best friends Pete Wentz and Joe Trohman. Patrick joined the band when he met Pete in a bookstore. Patrick introduced himself and they got talking. Soon after, Pete agreed to have Patrick in the band. The drummer Andy Hurely joined after the trio tried to switch around the positions of being the drummer and rhythm guitarist. For their first two shows, they had no name. On their third show, a fan suggested the name "Fallout Boy" after a character on the television show The Simpsons. They have been a successful band ever since.
