Jazz is a genre of music that originated in the early 20th century in the African-American communities in the Southern states of the United States. This type of music has many sub-genres and has inspired Blues, March, Ragtime, and other genres of music. The typical instruments in this genre of music are bass guitars, double bass, banjo, trombone, guitar, and other instruments. The popularity of this genre lasted from the 1920s all the way to the 70s. Artists that I know of in this genre are Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, and Clark Terry. My favorite Louis Armstrong song is What A Wonderful World. It is a beautiful song that I like to listen to over and over. I have heard covers of the song, and the artists that made the cover are making the song more awesome every time.
Louis Armstrong
Louis Armstrong, nicknamed Satchel-mouth or Satchmo was born August 4, 1901 and deceased July 6, 1971, was a professional jazz musician who specialized in playing the trumpet. He learned how to play as a young boy in New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz music. Armstrong was a great influence in jazz music, and has great songs that made him famous, such as "What A Wonderful World". Other than playing the trumpet, Armstrong was known for scatting, which passes as singing in Jazz music. Not only was his scatting great, his singing was also very influential and excellent to listen to. People thought it didn't matter that his voice was rough sounding. His influence has spread beyond jazz music, and became even more famous by doing charity events.
Benny Goodman
Benny Goodman, born May 30, 1909 and deceased June 13, 1986 was a jazz and swing musician. He played the clarinet for his instrument of choice. He is known as "King of Swing" because of his great swing music. He was also a great bandleader. Goodman led one of the greatest bands in America. I do not know what that band was called. A critic named Bruce Eder saw Goodman's January 13, 1938 concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City and said it "was one of the most important jazz concerts in history".
